Canstruction® is a competition that engages participants in structural design while also allowing them to make a positive impact on hunger in their local community. On November 3, 2017 the inaugural Canstruction® competition at Discovery Park of America was held in the Reelfoot room with 9 teams competing.
The competition was sponsored by Alan Searcy Builder Contractors and the Westan Insurance Group. Thanks to their generosity, each team recieved $500.00 to purchase canned food to build their Canstruction® creations!
In total, 10,418 cans were collected and donated to three local hunger relief organizations!
The following prizes were awarded:
Best Meal – Union City High School Skills USA Class
Best use of Labels – Obion County Central High School
Structural Ingenuity – Black Oak Elementary School
Honorable Mention #1 – Obion County Central High School
Honorable Mention #2 – Lake Road Elementary School
Juror’s Favorite – Black Oak Elementary School
The 2nd Annual Canstruction Jr. Competition at Discovery Park of America will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018. The complete competition rules, timeline, and registration information will be published on or about March 30, 2018.
