UNION CITY, TENN. – Discovery Park of America will be open Monday, May 27, 2019 with free admission for veterans and their dependents. Memorial Day marks one of the few Mondays that the park is open. According to Mary Nita Bondurant, marketing director, many area businesses are closed Memorial Day and people are looking for something to do. “We open on Memorial Day because a lot of parents can bring their children to Discovery Park on Memorial Day who are normally working on Monday,” Bondurant said. “And, due to the generosity of Vincent Outfitters of Martin, Tenn., and Baptist Hospital of Union City, we are offering complimentary admission to all veterans and their dependents on Monday,” she added.

There will be a special memorial service at 1 p.m. in the ATA Traveling Exhibit Hall. David Johnson will provide opening remarks. The VFW will present the colors, followed by the pledge of allegiance and the national anthem. Johnny Dyer will provide remarks following the invocation. All Obion County veterans who have passed away since last Memorial Day will be recognized by name and a special bell ringing ceremony. Following TAPS, the VFW will retire the colors. This special Memorial Day ceremony is open to the public and is free with park admission.
