Discovery Park of America is participating in Earth Science Week October 15-19, 2019. There will be a ton of different activities scheduled throughout the week for guests of all ages to enjoy. Be on the lookout for a schedule of events each day because every day is a new activity.
2-4 p.m. As part of Geologic Map Day, you can learn how to read a geologic map. We will have activities that teach you how to look at contour lines on maps and see which way groundwater flows through a region, and you can even learn if you are potentially in a flood plane. A table will be set up in Dinosaur Hall for this activity.
Geologic Map Day promotes awareness of the study, uses, importance of geologic mapping for education, science, business and a variety of public policy concerns. This day is hosted by the U.S. Geological Survey, the Association of American State Geologists, the National Park Service, the Geological Society of America and Esri, in partnership with AGI.
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You will have the opportunity to learn about a sport called Orienteering, in which a person navigates around an area with a map. In this case, you will be solving a puzzle! Maps can be picked up at the front ticket desk.
