Astronomy Night: Messenger of the Sky

Mar 7th @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Join Dr. Lionel Crews from the University of Tennessee at Martin Astronomy Department and the Discovery Park education team on Friday, March 7th, for the third informative Astronomy Night of the year. This month’s event will be located on the Great Lawn from 5:30 p.m-7:30 p.m. With last month’s having to be canceled due to weather, we are excited to get together again this month as we dive into all things Mercury.

Mercury is normally very close to the sun in the sky, making it an elusive target, but on Friday, March 7 it will be at “greatest elongation,” – its farthest position from the sun in the sky.  Join us for sunset in the Great Lawn on this day where we will try to spot the “messenger” planet. Guests will make a model of Mercury and study impact craters in fun hands-on activities.

Passport to the Universe

There are seven remaining Astronomy Night programs in 2025. Anyone who attends five or more of these events in the calendar year and completes our special training will receive a unique patch to commemorate the year’s astronomical events.

If you have already joined the passport program, don’t forget to bring your passports for the 2nd stamp this month.
