Join us on Monday, January 16 as we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with special programming featuring the Lane College Choir from Jackson, TN and Pastor Nelson Youngblood III from Union City, TN.
Lane College Choir, the vocal ensemble from Lane College, has performed in many distinguished venues, including The White House and the World’s Fair. Among their most notable performances are the funerals of Alex Haley, author of the world-famous book, Roots, and Ron Brown, the former Commerce Secretary in the Clinton Administration.
Pastor Youngblood is the founder of Refreshing Church Martin in Martin, TN, and a Union City School System teacher and coach. He is married to Clarissa Youngblood, and together they have three children and one grandchild.
Choir performances will be at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Dinosaur Hall of the Discovery Center. At noon, Pastor Youngblood will offer words of inspiration, highlighting Dr. King’s vision and legacy. In addition, photos and video recordings of and about Dr. King will be displayed throughout the museum.
Kids under 17 and college students with their student ID will receive free admission and adult general admission is just $10.
Martin Luther King, Jr., Day is observed annually on the third Monday in January. The day commemorates the life and work of Dr. King, who was a Baptist minister and prominent leader in the American civil rights movement.
MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
