King Day (Cancelled)

Jan 15th

DUE TO POSSIBLE INCLEMENT WEATHER COMING IN FOR THE LOCAL AREA AND FOR PERFORMERS/PARTNERS TRAVELING TO DISCOVERY PARK, WE UNFORTUNATELY HAVE DECIDED TO CANCEL OUR KING DAY EVENT.

Join us on Monday, Jan. 15, as we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with special programming featuring the Lane College Choir from Jackson, Tennessee. In addition, photos and video recordings of and about Dr. King will be displayed throughout the museum.

Martin Luther King, Jr., Day is observed annually on the third Monday in January. The day commemorates the life and work of Dr. King, who was a Baptist minister and prominent leader in the American civil rights movement. MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

The event will kicks off in Dino Hall, featuring a choir performance from Lane College. Lane College Choir, the vocal ensemble from Lane College, has performed in many distinguished venues, including The White House and the World’s Fair. Among their most notable performances are the funerals of Alex Haley, author of the world-famous book, Roots, and Ron Brown, the former Commerce Secretary in the Clinton Administration. See the full schedule of events below.

Check out this video of the Lane College Choir performance at last year’s MLK Day celebration.

Guests are invited to bring non-perishable foods for a donation to Reelfoot Rural Ministries.
