Solar Eclipse Party

The whole family is invited to join us for a viewing of the solar eclipse, educational discussions, snacks and a sense of wonder as participants.
The solar eclipse type in Union City, Tenneseee will be a partial solar eclipse. It is set to begin at 10:33 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14. However, the fun activities will last from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Discovery Park’s great lawn.
A select number of solar eclipse glasses, that can be used for this annular eclipse and the 2024 total eclipse, will be available for purchase in Discovery Park’s gift shop.
There will also be several different, alternate projectors available in our great lawn, from make-your-own paper ones to a solar scope.
Outline of events:
- Dr. Lionel Crews, UT Martin astronomy and physics professor, will be speaking on the science behind the eclipse at 10:20 a.m.
- The partial eclipse will begin at 10:33 a.m.
- Other fun activities, listed below, will follow until 2:00 p.m.
Activities will include:
· Solar Car Race
· Sun Print Art
· Stomp Rockets
· Eclipse Cups Sliders
· Solar Oven S’mores
We will even be making s’mores with homemade solar ovens.
Winners of the solar car races will have their name put into a Lowe’s bucket where one lucky person will have their name drawn to win a 544-piece LEGO Technic Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 AR Race Car.
