STEAM Saturday: Celebrating Black Inventions and Music in America

Celebrate Black History Month with our special STEAM Saturday programming on Feb. 19.

Schedule: 

11:30 a.m. – Black Rhythms and Music in America: I Can’t Stop Dancing! with Julie Hill

  • Julie Hill will be in Dinosaur Hall interacting with guests and playing musical samples which demonstrate the influential power that African rhythms have had on differing countries in the New World.

1 p.m. – KEVA Build OFF Challenge

  • In the Tennessee Room, guests will build trains and trolleys using KEVA planks.

2 p.m. – Black Inventors: Granville T. Woods with Zach Rea

  • Zach Rea will be in the Tennessee Room discussing Granville T. Woods a Black inventor who sold inventions to Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell and George Westinghouse. Woods is known for having over 50 patents in his name.
