Southern Artist Showcase
Feb. 27 – Aug. 11, 2024
Self-taught Southern artists have in common a powerful belief that they simply ARE artists, and most seem driven to express themselves visually,” said Bill Hickerson, executive director of the WTRAC.
The Southern Artist Showcase features some of the best-known painters, photographers, sculptors and other fine artists to come out of the South. Rotating frequently to expose visitors to the widest variety of art possible, this show features works produced in a variety of mediums.
The next Southern Artist Showcase will feature the art of Jubie Henderson. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, April 4.
A self-taught artist and cabinet maker from Fulton, Kentucky, Henderson was an artist with a disability whose paintings and carved birds of the southern United States won accolades and fans among art collectors and others.
Although bedridden for many years, he found art was a way to remember the hills and farm country where he lived. He also painted many scenes of Reelfoot Lake as he remembered it from his youth. Henderson died in 1999 leaving behind an impressive collection of artwork.
This Southern Artist Showcase is sponsored by Conley and Conley Law Firm.
