Discovery Park of America to Host King Day Celebration on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025

(Union City, Tenn., Jan. 9, 2025) — Discovery Park of America is set to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, with a day of special programming that will include keynote addresses, performances and hands-on activities for children. College students and staff with a valid ID and children 17 and under receive free admission on King Day. Adults who donate a minimum of five non-perishable food items can purchase general admission tickets for $10.
Activities will begin at 11 a.m. in Dino Hall with opening remarks from CEO Scott Williams, followed by keynote addresses from Dr. Yancy Freeman, Chancellor at the University of Tennessee at Martin, and Joyce Washington, community organizer and activist. The Lane College Choir, from Jackson, Tennessee, will provide a musical performance from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
“MLK Day provides us with an opportunity to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy,” said Scott Williams. “We are proud to bring our community together for a day of learning, inspiration and service.”
Additionally, there will be hands-on activities for children. At 1:30 p.m. in the Tennessee Room, guests can enjoy a screening of Selma, a film that highlights pivotal moments in the Civil Rights Movement.
