Northwest Tennessee has long been a mecca for hunters, birdwatchers, and outdoor water sports enthusiasts because of nearby Reelfoot Lake — a biodiverse ecosystem created by a series of earthquakes in 1811 and 1812. Also nearby is the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, with over 170,000 acres of forests, wetlands, and open lands on a peninsula between Western Kentucky and Tennessee.
