Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026
6 to 8 p.m.
Location: Reelfoot Room
Turn ordinary plastic grocery bags into something extraordinary during this adults-only Crafts & Cocktails workshop at Discovery Park of America. Guests 21 and older will enjoy an evening of creativity while learning practical upcycling techniques, along with a refreshing cocktail and a charcuterie board.
Participants will learn how to transform plastic bags into “plarn” (plastic yarn) and begin crocheting a reusable bag. Guests will also discover techniques for creating decorative flowers and will leave with plarn, a crochet hook and a pattern to complete their project at home. Whether you’re an experienced crafter or trying crochet for the first time, this hands-on workshop offers a fun way to reduce waste while learning a new skill.
You will discover:
- How to make “plarn” from plastic grocery bags
- Basic crochet techniques to start a reusable bag
- Decorative flower-making techniques
- Creative ways to repurpose everyday materials into functional art
