Living Historians
Experience history brought to life throughout the festival weekend.
J.C. Stahlman’s Living History Group presents engaging historical interpretations representing the French and Indian War, the American Revolution, Pioneer Life, the Early Republic, David Crockett’s Alamo, the Civil War, and World War II. Each encampment offers an authentic look into the daily lives, tools and stories of those who shaped our nation’s past. These living historians will be on site Friday and Saturday in The Settlement from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will be here on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Friday
- Brent Hopper – 10:30 a.m. to 11 and noon to 1 p.m.
A talented bluegrass and Americana musician, Brent Hopper shares the timeless sounds of the region through heartfelt vocals and skillful guitar and fiddle work. His performances showcase storytelling through song, connecting audiences to the traditions that shaped Tennessee’s musical roots.
Saturday
- Ralston Station – 11 a.m. to noon
A Martin, Tennessee–based bluegrass band bringing more than 20 years of traditional sound and lively harmonies to stages across the region. - Mulberry Jam – 1 to 2 p.m.
Mulberry Jam is a five-piece band, out of the Memphis area, that plays period songs of the past with traditional instruments and arrangements of the string dance performers of the 19th and early 20th century. - Community Jam Session led by Mulberry Jam – 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. Click here for more information.
Sunday

Bluegrass with Kevin Moore – 2 to 3 p.m.
Join Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist Kevin Moore, known for his work with the Gaither Vocal Band on fiddle, violin, guitar, mandolin and banjo. He’ll be joined by Holden McConnell of South Fulton on instrumental accompaniment and Tyler Sherwood of Union City on vocal.

- Scott Williams – 1 to 1:30 p.m. Three Steamboat Stories That Changed America
Join author and Discovery Park CEO Scott Williams for a fast-paced 20-minute journey down the Mississippi River, where steamboats transformed America’s frontier. From David Crockett’s own river adventures to the Robert Fulton’s invention of the commercial steamboat that opened up trade and travel, and finally to the tragic explosion of the Sultana—America’s worst maritime disaster—these stories reveal how the river shaped our nation’s history and culture.

Aly Marvin – Tea in the 1850s
Discover the history of homegrown, imported and foraged teas as Aly Marvin presents a hands-on lesson inspired by 19th-century life. Guests will learn how tea was prepared in the 1850s and even enjoy a sample.
1 to 1:30 p.m. | The Settlement
Three Steamboat Stories That Changed America
Join author and Discovery Park CEO Scott Williams for a fast-paced 20-minute journey down the Mississippi River, exploring how steamboats transformed America’s frontier. From David Crockett’s river adventures to Robert Fulton’s invention of the commercial steamboat and the tragic Sultana explosion, this engaging talk reveals how the river shaped our nation’s history and culture. Williams is the author of The Accidental Fame and Lack of Fortune of West Tennessee’s David Crockett and will release his newest biography, Townmania: Marcus Winchester and the Making of Memphis, on November 21, 2025.
