Juneteenth: A Celebration of Black American Freedom

Juneteenth is an annual celebration of slave emancipation that began in 1865 and became a federal holiday in 2021.

The Weakley County Reconciliation Project (WCRP) will commemorate Juneteenth at Discovery Park on Saturday, June 17.

Families are encouraged to bring their own blankets, chairs and fishing gear and enjoy food. Outside food and beverages are not allowed inside the park. Admission is free. For more information about the event, go to WCRP’s Facebook page.

The day will include food trucks, fun, fishing and fellowship. The entertainment will be provided by Crossfire Music, Kat Anderson of the BB King Allstars, J Poetry, Moe Hayslett, Craig Clay and TRuStory.

Admission is FREE for all guests. Gates open at 3:00 p.m. All guests should enter through the gate near the Train Depot.
