Enhance your young student’s learning at Discovery Park of America on STEAM Saturday! Focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, education specialists will be set up throughout Discovery Park with different learning stations!

STEAM Saturdays are the perfect chance to delve into more educational classes and experiences in the West Tennessee and Southwest Kentucky areas. Guests from Jackson, Dyersburg, Memphis, Nashville, Paducah, Murray and even northeastern Arkansas can all enjoy a great day of learning and fun at Discovery Park of America.

Schedule:

10:15 a.m. Staying Warm in the Ice Age with Russell Orr at the Cave Bear.

  • As guests enter Discovery Park, Russell will offer guests information about the strategies that animals used to stay warm during the bitter cold of the ice age in primeval times.

11:30 a.m. Staying Warm in the 1800s Settlement with Zach Rea in The Settlement

  • During the winter months, how did settlers in the 1800s frontier keep warm? Zach Rea will be discussing the different ways people in the 1800s fought off the biting cold during the winter months.

1 p.m. KEVA Build Off in the Tennessee Room

  • Guests will use KEVA planks to build a unique structure based on the theme of this STEAM Saturday.

2 p.m. Staying Warm in Space with Russell Orr in the STEM Landing Moon Dome

  • Russell will show guests Discovery Park’s spacesuit sample and discuss how humans remain warm enough to stay alive in the extreme environment of space.
