(Union City, Tenn., March 4, 2024) – David Hill is Discovery Park of America‘s 2024 Volunteer of the Year. It was announced during a volunteer appreciation dinner at Blake’s Southern Milling in Martin. Hill began volunteering at Discovery Park in 2020.

Hill grew up in Minnesota and eventually made his home in Central Illinois. He and his wife Connie moved to Union City when he retired. They have three children and six grandchildren. In addition to volunteering, David enjoys golfing, the Chicago Cubs, reading and taking care of his big yard. His favorite exhibit is The Train and The Depot because they provide such an in-depth look at “train life” and show how exciting train travel can be.

“By working at Discovery Park, I get to contribute to creating memorable experiences for visitors and playing a roll in inspiring others to See Beyond. Volunteering at Discovery Park is not just about the tasks we perform; it’s about being part of something greater, something that positively impacts lives and leaves a lasting impression,” said Hill. “I am grateful to be a part of this extraordinary team and to play a role in the meaningful work that happens here.”

On an average year, Discovery Park has around 30 active volunteers who perform duties in the museum, on the grounds, as craftspeople and in advisory roles.

“A robust volunteer program so important to a healthy non-profit museum,” said Scott Williams, Discovery Park’s CEO. “All of us at Discovery Park are so grateful to our volunteers like David who enhance our visitors’ experiences in so many ways.”

Many different volunteer opportunities exist currently, and duties can be tailored to meet individuals’ passions and interests.
